History of CIMAR

Established in 1996, CIMAR (Centre for Infertility Management and Assisted Reproduction) began its journey as the first IVF center in North Kerala, marking the beginning of a new era in fertility care and reproductive medicine in the region. Since its inception, CIMAR has remained committed to innovation, clinical excellence, and compassionate patient care, becoming one of India’s leading fertility and women’s healthcare institutions.

Over the years, CIMAR has introduced numerous pioneering technologies and treatments that have transformed infertility management in Kerala and beyond. In 1997, it introduced Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) treatment to Kerala, resulting in the birth of the state's first ICSI baby in 1998. CIMAR continued to achieve significant milestones, including the birth of one of India’s early babies conceived using Recombinant FSH treatment and the successful delivery of a baby following Laser Assisted Hatching of an embryo. In 2000, the organization also established Kerala’s first dedicated Fetal Medicine Department, expanding its expertise into advanced maternal and fetal healthcare.

The institution’s commitment to innovation led to several landmark achievements, including South India’s first PGD baby in 2001 and the introduction of India’s first Triple Gas Incubator technology in 2002. Advanced fetal procedures such as intrauterine blood transfusion, thoraco-shunt procedures, fetoscopy for twins, bipolar cord coagulation, and interstitial laser therapy were subsequently introduced, setting new standards for fetal care in Kerala.

Expansion and Growth

Expanding its reach, CIMAR launched its Kochi center in 2010 and later established dedicated women’s hospitals in Kochi and Thrissur. These expansions enabled the organization to provide comprehensive fertility, maternity, gynecology, and fetal medicine services to a larger population across Kerala and neighboring regions.

Recent achievements include pioneering advanced fertility and fetal medicine procedures, achieving remarkable pregnancy outcomes, and continuing to adopt state-of-the-art technologies that improve patient safety and treatment success rates.
